Episode 221: It Was Not The First Time

This week STICK TO WRESTLING is joined by popular returning guest Randy Smith as we take questions from the STW Universe regarding all things pro wrestling that happened in 1987. We discuss:

–The buildup for the Hulk Hogan vs Andre The Giant match, and the WWF falsely stating that it was their first match ever.
–Should Rick Rude have been the one to replace Ole Anderson in the Four Horsemen?
–Jim Crockett Jr purchases the UWF from Watts. They couldn’t have handled it any worse, but we talk about how they could have made it better.
–Should Curt Hennig have remained in the AWA?
–Should the WWF have had a Summerslam pay-per-view in 1987?
–What if Andre The Giant “shot” on Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania?

Plus Johnny Mac talks about a six hour long WWF taping he sat through and it’s the perfect podcast to listen to on Labor Day Weekend, so what are you waiting for? Download and listen to this wicked good podcast today!

Episode 176: “Horrors” Was The Right Word

This week STICK TO WRESTLING is joined by Chris Zaucha, as we celebrate, or perhaps commemorate, the 30th Anniversary of Halloween Havoc 1991, one of the more controversial shows put on by WCW. We look at:

–The aptly named “Chamber of Horrors” match, with WCW becoming more and more of a poor man’s WWF.

–But there were good matches as well, such as Terry Taylor vs Bobby Eaton, and Steve Austin vs Dustin Rhodes.

–Rick Rude makes his debut, with Paul E. Dangerously as his manager. This has real potential.

–Didja know Brian Pillman was a walk on for Miami of Ohio’s football team? If you didn’t, Jim Ross told you twice..before Pillman and Ricky Morton even locked up. Twice. –

-Lex Luger has a really good main event against Ron Simmons and is starting to look like he might be able to carry this. Maybe.

–But it still feels like Sting should be the centerpiece of this promotion.

Plus Johnny Mac tells you what was planned for Abdullah The Butcher after he was fried in an electric chair during the Chamber of Horrors, so what are so what are you waiting for? Download and listen to this wicked good bad boy!

Episode 152: Misty-Eyed Mud Match Memories

This week STICK TO WRESTLING is once again joined by popular guest Chris Tabar as we celebrate the 35th anniversary of the 1986 World Class Parade of Champions! We discuss:

–This was truly the end of the glory days of World Class Championship Wrestling. This show drew over 23,000 fans. They would never come close to that number again.

–Why “something for everyone” is a bad marketing strategy in wrestling.

–Strange booking takes place as The Great Kabuki tries defeating four stars in a row.

–Was Rick Rude ready to be pushed as a real world’s heavyweight champion?

–This show was missing something. That something was Ric Flair.

–The injuries seem to be taking their toll on Kevin Von Erich as his bad shoulder was re-injured to the point where he couldn’t wrestle in his Dad’s promotion’s version of the Super Bowl.

Plus Tabe and Johnny Mac talk about how radically the wrestling scene changed during the Spring of 1986, so what are you waiting for? Download and listen to this wicked good bad boy!
