Episode 170: Bloodied Old Men In Their Underwear

Mailbag episodes where we answer the listeners questions are always popular, so why not finally do another one? STICK TO WRESTLING is joined once again by popular guest Jayce “KO” Naccarato, and among the things we discuss are:

What were the best and worst looking championship belts of the 80’s?

If Crockett doesn’t lose Piper to the WWE, could they have taken the company national with a feud built around Piper and Flair?

What hurt the business more: the magazines, the newsletters, or the internet?

What if Ted Dibiase stays with the UWF after the Crockett purchase?

Why did Jesse Ventura and Adrian Adonis never get pushed as a tag team during their 1981 / 1982 run in the WWF?

What if Ric Flair went with Tully & Arn to the WWF in 1988?

Plus Johnny Mac talks about his earliest days on the internet and pointing out the impracticalities of a 1995 Fabulous Freebird reunion in WCW, so what are so what are you waiting for? Download and listen to this wicked good bad boy!

Episode 169: You’re Not Gonna Turn On Me, Are You?

Popular guest Christian Boddie returns to Stick To Wrestling and we thave Part Two of our discussion about our favorite Summer in wrestling which happened thirty five years ago: 1986. Discussed on this week’s episode:

–Paul Orndorff turning on Hulk Hogan may have been obvious and an overly simplistic story, but their feud drew spectacularly.

–The AWA and World Class Championship Wrestling came into 1986 still looking and feeling like major league promotions. By the middle of this Summer they did not.

–Roddy Piper finally turns babyface and of course, is immediately in main events.

–The UWF putting on great television. The Freebirds and Eddie Gilbert’s crew are the lead heels while Hacksaw Duggan, Ted Dibiase, Steve Williams, and Terry Taylor are the top babyfaces. Bill Watts comes out of retirement and makes things even more interesting

–Championship Wrestling from Florida continues to spiral despite having the mega-talented Barry Windham and the promising Lex Luger in the promotion.

–The suspended Andre The Giant returns to the WWF…in disguise, as the Giant Machine.

–Baby Doll inexplicably turns on Dusty Rhodes to side with Ric Flair, which made no sense from a logical or a storyline standpoint. Making things worse, Ric and Baby Doll had no on-screen chemistry.

–Ole Anderson returns to the NWA after a six month absence, and the Four Horsemen get rolling.

–Paul Jones scores the upset, and Jimmy Valiant gets his head shaved.

–Dusty Rhodes wins the NWA title, but for only three weeks.

–The Magnum T.A. vs Nikita Koloff feud continues to rage on.

Plus Christian and John talk about both being at the 1986 Great American Bash in Philadelphia, so what are you waiting for? Download and listen to this wicked good bad boy!

This week Stick To Wrestling is joined by Alfred Sumrall as we have fun with an Apter Magazine from 1987! Some of the news stories (in some cases not really “news stories”) that we discuss:

–The WWF coming to a settlement with John Stossel after he was attacked by David Schultz.

–The Road Warriors tour Japan and use some bad words to describe their opponents.

–Ted Dibiase is suddenly rich and is flaunting it. This is somehow Hulk Hogan’s fault.

–Larry Zybysko has changed Curt Hennig!

–Legendary Oklahoma football coach Barry Switzer is training Steve Williams for his upcoming UWF title match against Big Bubba Rogers.

Plus we talk about the general wackiness of the Apter Magazines, so what are you waiting for? Download and listen to this wicked good bad boy!

–Bill Watts calling Paul Orndorff a word that one usually wouldn’t associate with Paul.

–Orndorff’s “disappearance” in 1983 after leaving Georgia not really being a disappearance.

–Orndorff hitting the big time in the WWF.

–WCW misused Paul Orndorff. What a surprise.

Plus we talk about Orndorff getting hit in the face with a bottle at the old Boston Garden, so what are you waiting for? Download and listen to this wicked good bad boy!
